Don't see your question here? E-mail us at info@HighlandKilt.com!
We are located in Merrill, WI USA, but we do not have a 'brick and mortor' store here. Nearly every weekend except December we travel across the USA, bringing our store to Highland Games, Irish Fests, and similar events. If you let us know where you are located we can tell you when we will be in your neck of the woods so you can visit us in person!
We HIGHLY recommend that you email us with any questions. We answer almost all of our emails within 24 hours. On the other hand, most of the time we are away from the phone because we are busy filling orders, driving to our next event, working at our booth, and so on. A lot of our email answering/voicemail checking gets done outside of business hours, which isn't the ideal time to call people back (unless you like midnight phone calls!). It really is much more efficient to email you back an answer than to play phone tag back and forth for a week. If you have a question that must be discussed by phone and don't mind waiting several days for a call back, our dedicated voicemail line is 715-804-4553.
One of the biggest questions we get asked is "what size should I order", so...
First off: DON'T ORDER YOUR PANTS/JEAN SIZE!!! Just measure your waist where you intend to wear the kilt...some guys like to wear it around the belly, some guys like to wear it where they sling their pants, but either way, MEASURE then order the nearest whole size to that. If you are ordering where you wear your pants, odds are it will be about 2-4" above your normal pants size: i.e. if you wear a 36 in your jeans, you will take a 38 or 40 in your kilt, but measuring is best.
If you are ordering one of our 100% wool kilts from Scotland, you get to measure a bit more. But the page describes that.
Second biggest question: How long will it take to receive my order?
Usually not too long.
1) For the items we carry in stock, we do our best to keep a full stock, so odds are your kilt/item will be on hand and ready to ship within 3-14 business days. That is, unless a bunch of people who wear your size kilt and love that tartan decided *THIS* was the week to try and steal your thunder. Or you have placed a huge order that will take some time to get together. It happens. If your kilt or other item(s) are not going to be in stock for more than 2 weeks, we will do our best to let you know ASAP and provide an estimated delivery date. No matter what, unlike other kilt companies, for stock items we DO NOT CHARGE YOUR CARD UNTIL WE ARE READY TO SHIP. The exception to this, of course, would be those of you choosing to pay via PayPal which requires immediate payment, but you can avoid that by not using PayPal. Why do we do it this way? We've heard too many people complain that other sellers have taken their money upfront yet not shipped a kilt for months or longer, or even never in a few sad cases...We don't operate like that. We prefer that you only pay when you know you are receiving your order shortly. Sounds fair, right?
So, while we are talking about fair: we also offer our 100% custom kilts which are made to your exact measurements and ordered just for YOU! As such, we do not accept returns on custom orders. We will always provide what you ordered and stand behind it...if you ordered a 36" waist and got a 46" or something is ever flawed on arrival, well we WILL correct it and provide a replacement if necessary. On the other hand, if you don't actually measure yourself and guess you are a 34 when you really need a 40, or find out after you order that your grandmother will disinherit you if you are caught wearing a Campbell/MacDonald/insert clan here tartan, well, sorry mate, that one is on you. You can't return it.
So now you want to order, what about shipping?
We ship USPS Priority Mail as our standard once your order is ready to go. If you need a rush order/overnight delivery, please contact us prior to placing your order just to make sure your item is in stock. Additional fees will apply for express delivery options~we will happily provide a quote with our reply.
Our pipe band (or other group) needs to place a large group order~can you give us a group discount and/or put together a special package with the items we need?
Of course! We specialize in group orders and can offer significant discounts off our normal prices! Whether you need to order just kilts, or are looking at creating a custom package including items such as belts/buckles, sgian dubh's, and so on, contact us and we will give you deep discounts and personalized service!
Do you ship to Canada? What about other countries?
We ship packages to our northerly neighbors on a daily basis, and our shopping cart will calculate shipping for you. We can accept Canadian credit cards as well as PayPal.
We are happy to accept orders from our international customers via PayPal. Please email us for a shipping quote prior to ordering, and once you have a total quote we can email you a PayPal invoice for your convenience.
You had an item at the Highland Games that I don't see on your website. How do I order it?
E-mail us at info@HighlandKilt.com with a description of the item (and where you saw us if possible) and we will happily let you know if that product is still available.
How do I exchange or return an item?
We'll pretty much exchange anything for another size, color, etc. We just ask that you contact us for an Exchange Authorization Number and ship the item(s) back to us within 7 days. We'll get your replacement out to you as soon as we receive your return. You will be responsible for return shipping charges. If an exchange won't do, we will refund your order so long as you contact us for a Return Authorization Number and
return the item in its original, unworn/unused condition within 7 days.
In the rare case a product defect comes to light after the 7 days but in less than 60 days, we will, at our discretion, offer an EXCHANGE only for an identical product (or, if an identical product is not available, a mutually acceptable substitute or store credit). Product defect does not mean "I slid down the hill in my kilt and ripped a hole in it", it's more when "my kilt strap broke for no reason" (not that that's happened to one of our kilts yet, but you never know)!
Reasons we are likely to deny your exchange or refund:
1) You wadded your muddy kilt up into a ball and left it in your trunk for 2 months, and now it 'smells funny'.
2) You ordered and wore the kilt for a wedding, and now you 'really don't need a kilt anymore', so want a full refund.
3) You wore your kilt all of last year, but now that you've lost/gained 50 lbs it doesn't fit, you want to exchange it.
4) You wore boxers under your kilt and feel shamed into returning them.
--Those are all true stories, by the way. Ok, maybe I made up #4. I think in general our policies are pretty darn reasonable. If in doubt let us know what's going on and we'll work with you on a resolution.
Disclaimer and other random legal-sounding stuff:
By ordering from Highland Kilt Co., you agree not to hold us liable for shipping delays, damaged or late items, injury, improper fit, or any damages, expenses, delays or other losses which you incur from ordering from us.
We reserve the right to refuse any order. We reserve the right to cancel any order, at any time, for any reason by issuing a refund. Oh, and we will not honor "price glitches". It hasn't happened yet, but if my fat fingers accidentally publish all of our kilts for $5, you're not getting one for $5 Buster. And don't whine about it to me. Go scream about your entitlement to your Momma who clearly didn't raise you right.
Changes made by you after an order is placed will be accommodated if possible, but cannot be guaranteed. Any difference in price must be paid in advance.
We reserve the right to substitute items of equal or greater value on those rare occasions when we might be out of a particular color/style (we would never do this on kilts, but on very rare occasions may upgrade you to a better sporran style, etc.) When possible we will contact you first, and if we can not reach you before your order ships we'll substitute the closest color or style to fill your order in a timely manner.
Any alterations will be the buyer's responsibility.
We will not accept returns/exchanges on any items which have been altered, hemmed, worn, or otherwise changed by you.
Any liability is limited to a refund of your purchase price and is at the sole discretion of Highland Kilt Company.
Special Order items are NON REFUNDABLE.
By ordering from Highland Kilt Company, you agree to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute that can not be resolved mutually.
